Knowledge and Technology Transfer Officer

IMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment. IMDEA Materials has grown rapidly since its foundation and currently includes more than 120 researchers from 17 nationalities and has become one of the leading research centers in materials in Europe which has received the María de Maeztu seal of excellence from the Spanish government. The research activities have been focused in the areas of materials for transport and materials for energy and the Institute has state-of-the-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials. As part of the Research Strategic Programme 2019-2022, supported by the María de Maeztu seal, IMDEA Materials Institute is in process of creating a Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) Office. The main goal of the KTT Office is to increase the output from the research results in terms of exploitation and commercialisation, so the activities of the Institute demonstrate an impact on the societal needs.

The Institute seeks a Knowledge and Technology Transfer Officer who, under the supervision of the Projects and Technology Director, will be in charge of the KTT Office. The candidate should be a proactive, dynamic, self-motivated person with proven experience in management of intellectual/industrial property and commercialization of technologies. He or she should have strong business development and communication skills.

His/her main responsibilities will be:

  • Provide support in the Industrial Advisory Council meetingsIdentification of partners/customers and events of international relevance within the target sector (congresses, fairs, etc.)
  • Foster an entrepreneurial spirit in the Institute
  • Provide support to create Spin-off companies
  • Communication actions to increase the visibility of IMDEA Materials capacities and commercial assets
  • Provide support to develop solid business plans
  • Development of plans for exploitation and transfer, that will promote more links with industry
  • Implement valorisation mechanisms to evaluate the potential of project results
    Management of the intellectual and industrial property portfolio of the Institute, including protection, valorisation and licensing


  • MSc or PhD degree related to materials science or engineering
  • 5 years of experience in a similar position
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Fluent English (both spoken and written)
  • Proactive, dynamic and self-motivated
  • Business studies will be highly regarded


Contract with full social security coverage.

Annual gross salary range: 33.000 – 37.000 Euros
