Research assistant (PhD student) position

IMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment. IMDEA Materials has grown rapidly since its foundation and currently includes more than 120 researchers from 17 nationalities and has become one of the leading research centers in materials in Europe which has received the María de Maeztu seal of excellence from the Spanish government. The research activities have been focused in the areas of materials for transport and materials for energy and the Institute has state-of-the-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials. More information can be found at

IMDEA Materials seeks a full-time PhD with a priority to candidates with experience and interest in cutting-edge approaches in the hybrid photovoltaic field. We are looking for an individual with initiative and motivation to start her/his career in a new and dynamic research group. The research activities will be focused on hybrid organic/inorganic multifunctional solar cells. The candidate will learn the fabrication and characterization of films prepared with new blends, as well as the device assembly and analysis. She/he will perform the device characterization under in- and out-door conditions combining different spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques.

Candidates should hold a Master in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry or related disciplines. Previous experience in manufacture of luminescent devices, Preparing, characterzation of hybrid materials for lighting applications, and solid laboratory techniques knowledge AFM, DSC, SEM, TEM, and spectroscopic - PLQYs, half-life times, fluorescence, etc.

Excellent academic records and a strong commitment to develop an academic career in an international and multidisciplinary environment are expected.

Fluent oral and written English is required as this is the official language of the group. No knowledge of Spanish is totally fine (free lessons provided).

Interested candidates should submit their Curriculum Vitae (including complete contact information for two references) and a one-page statement of their motivation.
