DESCRIPTION

IMDEA Materials Institute’s High Performance Polymer Nanocomposites (HPPN) Group led by Prof.Dr.De-Yi Wang is seeking a PhD student that will be responsible for characterization, data-collection and property-prediction of polymer-based nanocomposites, via a co-supervision with Computational and Data-driven Discovery Group.

The main research activities conclude following aspects:

  • Development of polymer-based nanocomposites
  • Characterization on the flame retardant and mechanical properties
  • Collecting and managing the data from the group and literatures
  • Using machine learning algorithm (e.g. Random Forest, MLP) to analyse the collected data
  • Presenting the predicted results and validating them in lab

REQUIREMENTS

Candidates should hold a Master of Science degree in material science, chemistry, statistics, computer science or related discipline.

For our project, having experience in at least three of the following fields is necessary:

  • Acquainted with basic knowledge on the processes of polymer composites
  • Know well about the characterization on the fire resistance and mechanical properties
  • Holding practical knowledge of a common programming language (e.g. C++, Python, etc.)
  • Able to use the statistical analysis methods and/or machine learning tools to deal
  • Excellent transcripts in Bachler and/or Master program

In addition to the academic abilities, a candidate with creative thinking, teamwork spirit and strong self-confidence is expected to join our group. Besides, fluent speaking and writing in English is indispensable for co-working in this position and communication in daily life.

CONDITIONS

Working Contract with full social security coverage is provided. Gross Salary depending on previous experience and qualifications. (Reference: Gross salary 20,000Euro/year).

The PhD will be covered by a FPI grant from the Ministry of Science within the María de Maeztu program. Candidates will be pre-screened upon applying to this vacancy, and promising candidates will be interviewed and directed to apply for the grant call, which will open around October 2021. Therefore, interested candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to ensure best consideration of their application. It is a 4-year Position, starting in September 2022.

The student will enrol in the PhD program at Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain.
