The Multifunctional Nanocomposites Groups is looking for a PhD student to work in the research project STEM (structural energy harvesting composite composites) funded by an ERC Starting Grant.

The research activities will be focused on the synthesis of carbon nanotubes by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and assembly as a continuous macroscopic fibre, as well as its characterization by advanced electron microscopy, spectroscopy and WAXS-SAXS. 

The candidate will develop strategies for molecular control of these fibres, including implementing equipment to monitor the catalytic reaction in-situ during CNT growth, building on the group’s expertise in CNT type control and chirality studies on kilometer-long CNT fibres.

Candidates should hold a Master in Chemistry (or related discipline), have previous experience in gas-phase catalysis or growth of nanostructures by CVD.  Excellent academic credentials and a strong commitment to develop an academic career in an international and multidisciplinary environment are expected.

Fluent oral and written English is required.

No knowledge of Spanish is required (free lessons provided)


Full time contract including social security coverage. Salary depending on previous experience and credentials.
