Senior Technical Manager position in Additive manufacturing. He/she will assume the responsibility to develop and expand the scientific activities of the institute in Additive Manufacturing to tackle technological solutions in collaboration with the industrial partners. The Senior Technical Manager will take responsibility of the existing additive manufacturing research portfolio, both in terms of experimental capabilities and numerical tools, contribute to their expansion, and manage large research projects to address advanced manufacturing challenges and opportunities. The successful candidate will also drive innovation and demonstrate advanced concepts and solutions while leading a multi-disciplinary team to engage with external stakeholders (machine suppliers and end-users).


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as project leader of existing additive manufacturing research projects
  • Attract new research projects on additive manufacturing
  • Organize, lead and engage multi-disciplinary teams across the research groups of the institute to respond to project needs.

Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in Materials Science (or related discipline) and demonstrate the ability to carry out independent research, manage large research projects and attract funding. They should demonstrate in-depth knowledge of additive manufacturing materials, processes and technologies, including programming, equipment and tools. Scientific expertise in any of the following areas will be valued:

  • Understanding of the underlying mechanisms that lead to defect formation in additively manufactured materials.
  • Optimization of process-structure-property relationships in additive manufacturing.
  • Development of integrated, multi-material approaches in additive manufacturing.
  • In-situ monitoring, data collection and analysis of additive manufacturing.

Leadership and aptitude to establish strong multidisciplinary collaborations across the institute together with good communication skills are required.
