IMDEA Materials is looking for a laboratory technician who will be in charge of the X-ray lab. The laboratory holds an X-ray tomography system (Nanotomo GE) and an X-ray diffractometer (Panalytical Emperean), plus several in-house developed devices. The tasks of the offered position will be related to the use of those equipment.
For tomography, acquisition of tomograms, volume reconstruction, image processing of the acquired volumes and reporting. The technician will have to work with large data volumes, and extract information in 3D from them.
For diffraction: data acquisition with the diffractometer focused on phase analysis, texture measurements and residual stress determination. The position requires managing the users of the instrument, exchange the instrument configuration when necessary and being involved in some research projects.


Candidates should hold a Bachelor degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline), physics or an equivalent degree, with excellent academic credentials. A Msc or PhD degree will be valued.

Experience in programming, image processing, data analysis and strong knowledge of Linux will be valued.

Experience with X-ray diffraction for the abovementioned techniques will be valued. Fluent English (oral and written) is mandatory.


Full time contract including social security coverage. Initially 1 years, with possibility for permanent contract.
