Post-doctoral Research Associate in Bioedegradable Metallic Implants

In Evaluation. It is not possible to apply anymore

IMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over the world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment. IMDEA Materials has grown rapidly since its foundation and currently includes more than 120 researchers from 22 nationalities and has become one of the leading research centers in materials in Europe which has received the María de Maeztu seal of excellence from the Spanish government. The research activities have been focused on the areas of materials for transport, energy, and health care and the Institute has state-of-the-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials.

More information can be found at our webpage.

Description

The candidate will join the EIC-funded collaborative project BIOMET4D, working on the development of shape-morphing metallic biodegradable actuators towards a new generation of implants with dynamic tissue restoration properties. The BIOMET4D implants will find application in reconstructive surgeries for example of the nose and ears. More information can be found at the project website.

More specifically, the candidate will contribute to the characterization of the microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of additively manufactured biodegradable metals.

Requirements

Candidate should hold a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field/discipline with excellent academic credentials and a strong commitment to developing scientific activity in an international and multidisciplinary environment.

Fluent English (written and oral) is needed.

Expertise in electron microscopy, electrochemical characterization and mechanics of materials is required. Demonstrated previous experience on the metallurgy of biodegradable metals such as Fe, Zn and/or Mg alloys, as well as on X-Ray Computed Tomography, will be strongly valued. Some background on computational solid mechanics and numerical simulations is not fully required but could be valued.

Conditions

Full-time contract including social security coverage. Salary will depend on previous experience and credentials. The post-doctoral contract is for 24 months.

Candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as possible to ensure the best consideration of their application. Screening of candidates will begin immediately. Short-listed candidates will be invited for an initial in-person or online interview, even before the closing date.

Applications are processed upon reception. The position might be closed once ten working days have passed since publication, so we encourage early application.

The working language of the Institute is English. Full command of the English language is required in all positions.
