Many of the researchers at the institute have joined IMDEA Materials after having worked at the most prestigious universities and research centres in the world and over 40% of employees are foreign nationals. This international team with multidisciplinary expertise is contributing to establish IMDEA Materials as an international reference in Materials Science and Engineering.
The research done at the institute, led by international recognized staff Researchers, combines fundamental research at the frontier of knowledge (high impact publications) and applied research in collaboration with national and international companies (technology transfer)
Research assistants and research associates have the possibility to attend to national and international conferences and, in most cases, perform international secondments in another research institutions and companies. The institute also organises internal competitions to encourage creativity and innovation.

The institute complements scientific and technical training with language classes and transversal training courses to improve transferable skills and provide better career opportunities.
The institute hosts researchers from 18 different countries and has a team of laboratory technicians, an international project office and administrative staff to support researchers and help them focus on their research activities and developing their careers. The working language is English.
