Postdoc position in development of high-throughput method for materials libraries in bulk form

IMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over the world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment. IMDEA Materials has grown rapidly since its foundation and currently includes more than 120 researchers from 22 nationalities and has become one of the leading research centers in materials in Europe which has received the María de Maeztu seal of excellence from the Spanish government. The research activities have been focused on the areas of materials for transport, energy, and health care and the Institute has state-of-the-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials.

More information can be found at our webpage.

The candidate will work on the development of the high-throughput method for materials libraries in bulk form for accelerated materials discovery.

More specifically, the candidate will contribute to the design and building of a setup for automatized powder distribution, high-throughput melting crucible, and testing and optimizing of both.

Candidate should hold a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field/discipline with excellent academic credentials and a strong commitment to developing scientific activity in an international and multidisciplinary environment.

Fluent English (written and oral) is needed.

Expertise in induction melting and casting, electron microscopy, and mechanics of materials is required. Demonstrated previous experience on the metallurgy of Al, Fe and Ni alloys, as well as on designing and building small devices, will be strongly valued. Some background on computational thermodynamics and numerical simulations is welcome.

Full-time contract including social security coverage. Salary will depend on previous experience and credentials. The post-doctoral contract is for 24 months with possible extension.
