SHORT DESCRIPTION
The research groups of Sustainable Powder Metallurgy and Micro- and Nano-mechanics at IMDEA Materials Institute, jointly seek a RESEARCH ASSOCIATE with Doctoral Degree in materials science and engineering, chemistry or similar, to work in metal additive manufacturing by metal jetting
OTHER DETAILS
In Evaluation. It is not possible to apply anymore
IMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over the world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment. IMDEA Materials has grown rapidly since its foundation and currently includes more than 120 researchers from 22 nationalities and has become one of the leading research centers in materials in Europe which has received the María de Maeztu seal of excellence from the Spanish government. The research activities have been focused on the areas of materials for transport, energy, and health care and the Institute has state-of-the-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials.

to carry out a post-doctoral research project on additive manufacturing of metals by Metal Jetting. The research will be focused on powder characterisation in its fresh state as well as after several conditioning and printed cycles. This research will devise the powder surface analysis and its macro behaviour, in order to develop use practices or mitigation strategies to ensure powder physical properties stability. This is directly translated in printed quality stability and cost by reducing powder waste and minimizing process iteration, which increase circular economy. Moreover, powder-binder interactions will be studied by novel infiltration mechanisms.
The candidate will carry out his/her research work at IMDEA Materials Institute (Madrid) but will closely interact with HP 3D Printing, as well as AMES Group (Barcelona). He/she will have the chance to work closely with colleagues and span over the whole manufacturing chain, from powder to final product. He/she will receive training in transversal skills and will have the opportunity to learn from the 3D printing market and disseminate his/her work at specialized forums.
PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry and/or related discipline. Strong background in metallurgy and powder metallurgy. Experience in experimental microstructure characterization by XPS, FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM is valued. Fluent English (oral and written) is required.
Conditions: 18-month contract with full social security coverage.
Starting date: December 2023 or as soon as a suitable candidate is found.
Applications are processed upon reception. The position might be closed once ten working days have passed since publication, so we encourage early application.
The working language of the Institute is English. Full command of the English language is required in all positions.
