IMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over the world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment. The research activities have been focused on the areas of materials for transport, energy, and health care and the Institute has state-of-the-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials.

The candidate will participate in an industrial research project for the aeronautical sector aiming at exploiting directional solidification to manufacture complex turbine blade components with demanding thermomechanical properties.

The candidate is expected to have a solid background in metallurgy and advanced manufacturing and contribute to several aspects, including new alloy development better suited for single-crystal growth and the optimization of processing parameters to improve the microstructure and properties of the final products.


The position is most appropriate for a recent graduate (or soon to graduate) in fields related to materials and/or mechanical engineering, with an interest in working on industrial research in the aeronautical sector.

The candidate should have (or will soon obtain) a degree (BSc and/or MSc) in Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or a related discipline with excellent academic credentials. Experience or knowledge in directional solidification will be highly valued. Additionally, knowledge of microstructure-property-processing relationships in metallic alloys is required. Close interactions with industrial stakeholders are expected; therefore, the ability to work as part of a team is essential.

Full proficiency in English, oral and written, is mandatory.
