IMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over the world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment. IMDEA Materials has grown rapidly since its foundation and currently includes more than 120 researchers from 22 nationalities and has become one of the leading research centers in materials in Europe which has received the María de Maeztu seal of excellence from the Spanish government. The research activities have been focused on the areas of materials for transport, energy, and health care and the Institute has state-of-the-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials.

More information can be found at our webpage.

Description

IMDEA Materials has opened a new position of Senior Researcher in the following area:

Modelling and Simulation of Materials Processing, including computational thermodynamics and kinetics, advanced manufacturing and thermo-mechanical processing of metallic alloys. The research activities should demonstrate the potential for strong collaborations with other research groups in the institute to expand their application in the scope of nanomaterials synthesis (e.g. nanowire growth), biomedical applications (e.g. 3D printing of bioresorbable implants), and sustainable alloy design & manufacturing.

Requirements

PhD in Material Science or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (compulsory).

Fluent English (oral and written) (compulsory).

Scholarship:

Well-established international reputation and continued professional growth and recognition, demonstrated by:

  • Publication and citation record.
  • Technology transfer record: patents, software, industrial partnership.
  • Principal investigator of research projects funded by national or international bodies or industry.
  • Awards and honours.
  • Invited/keynote/plenary lectures at national and international conferences.
  • International experience and international research network.

Leadership:

  • Ability to develop an independent research group with internationally recognized scientific and/or technological achievements.
  • Funding record.
  • Advising of doctoral and master thesis.
  • Organization of national and international conferences and workshops.

Experience and contributions in the area of multiscale materials modelling of metallic alloys manufacturing, including demonstrated expertise in:

  • Computational thermodynamics and kinetics (CalPhaD, phase-field, and other methods).
  • Advanced manufacturing (e.g. additive manufacturing) and thermo-mechanical processing of metallic alloys (e.g. solidification and solid-state heat treatments).
  • Microstructure formation and evolution (e.g. phase transformations, crystal growth, etc.).
  • Computational modelling (original model developments, code programming, high-performance computing, etc.).

Conditions

Contrato indefinido con cargo a la tasa de reposición específica autorizada por la Secretaría de Estado de Función Pública del Ministerio de Hacienda y Función Pública en fecha 30 de diciembre de 2022.

Permanent contract under the specific replacement rate authorised by the Secretary of State for the Civil Service of the Ministry of Finance and the Civil Service on 30 December 2022.

Applications are processed upon reception. The position might be closed once ten working days have passed since publication, so we encourage early application.
