IMDEA Materials Institute is a public research organization founded in 2007 by Madrid’s regional government to carry out research of excellence in Material Science and Engineering by attracting talent from all over the world to work in an international and multidisciplinary environment. IMDEA Materials has grown rapidly since its foundation and currently includes more than 120 researchers from 22 nationalities and has become one of the leading research centers in materials in Europe which has received the María de Maeztu seal of excellence from the Spanish government. The research activities have been focused on the areas of materials for transport, energy, and health care and the Institute has state-of-the-art facilities for processing, characterization and simulation of advanced materials.

Description

The candidate will work on i) the development and selection of smart materials, such as thermo-response polymers, mechanical-response materials, and ii) the design and fabrication of healthcare devices based on the developed smart materials. Although the basic strategy would follow the principal ideas in the project, it is open to any new idea from the candidate in order to achieve the final target on the functions of the healthcare devices.

The candidate will acquire hands-on experience with mechanical or materials engineering, including designing and fabricating small devices by incorporating smart materials, sensors, electronic devices, etc. The candidate will gain experience in fundamental and applied research in materials science, engineering, and high-performance polymers, opening perspectives in academia and industry.


Requirements

Candidate should hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering or a related field/discipline with excellent academic credentials and a strong commitment to developing an academic career in an international and multidisciplinary environment.

Strong background in materials and fabricating small devices based on varied components with a proven record of accomplishment is essential.

Fluent English (written and oral) is mandatory.

Previous experience in thermo-response polymers or sensors will be highly appreciated and positively evaluated.

The post-doctoral contract is for 12 months.
