Description

The Computational Solid Mechanics Group at IMDEA Materials Institute is seeking to fill a position of Research Assistant to work on Hybrid physics-based and data-driven models for computational solid and materials mechanics. The researcher will work on the development of finite element models for complex thermomechanical processes and their surrogate approximation using machine learning methods. In particular, the hired researcher will be involved in two publicly funded projects: one will entail the modelling of additive manufacturing and the other one, the prediction of fatigue life of steels. Both problems will involve using Statistics, Mathematics, Programming and Machine Learning. The researcher will be enrolled in a PhD program and carry out his/her PhD dissertation while working at IMDEA.

Requirements

Candidates should have strong analytical skills and hold a MSc in Engineering, Material Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Physics with an excellent academic record. Additionally, successful candidates are expected to be fluent in spoken and written English and have programming experience in C++ and/or Python.

Interested candidates should submit the Curriculum Vitae, academic records for the BS and the MSc degrees, and a letter of motivation focusing on previous experience, interests, and personal goals.

Conditions

-- Full-time contract, including social security coverage.

-- Salary of 21.300 €/year.

-- Enrolment in a PhD program of the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and supervision.

-- Opportunity to attend international conferences.

-- Integration in an international environment with career training (language classes, soft skills, article preparation, proposal writing, etc.)

The candidate is expected to join the Institute in January 2024.

Applications are processed upon reception. The position might be closed once ten working days have passed since publication, so we encourage early application.

The working language of the Institute is English. Full command of the English language is required in all positions.
