Description

The Accelerated Materials Discovery Group at IMDEA Materials Institute is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join a project at the forefront of materials innovation. The research focuses on accelerating the discovery and development of materials through laboratory automation and self-driving laboratories.

The selected candidate will play a key role in the design and implementation of workflows executed by autonomous experimental platforms. These platforms will integrate collaborative and research robots for automated experimentation, together with machine learning algorithms to optimize and control experimental processes.

The PhD candidate will become part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team dedicated to autonomous experimentation, with opportunities to explore additional cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and materials informatics in the context of advanced materials discovery.

As part of the IMDEA community, the successful applicant will also benefit from a comprehensive training program in transferable skills offered by the Project Management Office. This includes workshops and courses on project management, leadership, grant writing, funding strategies, intellectual property, and science communication for both expert and general audiences.


Requirements

An MSc degree in Materials Engineering or a related field is required. Previous experience with computer programming is essential – ideally in the context of databases, APIs, workflows and other aspects of data infrastructure. Experience in programming robots, 3D printing equipment, and/or microcontrollers is considered an asset. Proficiency in English is also required.


Conditions

This position is full-time, limited-term employment.
