SHORT DESCRIPTION

IMDEA Materials is seeking a motivated Technical Support to join the electron microscopy laboratory. The laboratory technician will support research activities in the Institute’s electron microscopy laboratory. This laboratory is equipped with one TEM, two SEMs, one FIB system, and optical microscopes, all offering a wide range of experimental versatility.

Description

The successful candidate will provide research support activities in the Institute’s Electron Microscopy Laboratory under the supervision of the Lab Manager and other laboratory technicians:

  • Support for researchers using the Electron Microscopy and Optical Microscopy laboratory facilities.
  • Performance of characterization analyses using Electron Microscopy (SEM, FIB) and Optical Microscopy (LM) on samples from the institute, collaborators, or external service projects.
  • Sample preparation for SEM, TEM, and LM, including cutting, mechanical polishing, electropolishing, sputter metal coating, and preparation of lamellae or cross-sections using FIB.
  • Support for in-situ and ex-situ mechanical testing.
  • Training and instruction of new users in the different techniques.

Requirements

EDUCATION

Higher Vocational Training qualification in Chemical Laboratory Technology.

The following will be considered an advantage, although they are not mandatory requirements:

  • Previous experience in a laboratory at a research center or university.
  • Similar laboratory experience in a multinational and multicultural environment.
  • Previous experience with microscopy techniques (electron and/or optical microscopy).

The following will also be taken into consideration:

  • Candidates with an interest in scientific instrumentation and materials characterization.

LANGUAGES

  • English level B2 according to the CEFR.

DIGITAL SKILLS

  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office, preferably Office 365, especially Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of Matlab and/or Python.

Mandatory requirements:

It is important that the candidate meets the requirements indicated in the call:

  1. Age (16–29 years old), be under 30 years of age at the date of hiring
  2. Degree/qualification (according to the requested profile)

Conditions

- Full-time contract for 12 months.

- Availability to start in July 2026.
